The Basics

Full-day small-group and private Angkor Wat tours run from Siem Reap and take visitors around the complex; epic helicopter tours allow you to see the ruins from above; and sunrise or sunset tours are especially popular for the photo opportunities. Many also combine a visit to Angkor Wat with the Angkor National Museum, to learn more about the site’s history and significance. If visiting independently, you can pick up 1-, 3-, and 7-day passes for the archaeological park at the entrance.

Angkor Sunrise Bike Tour with Breakfast and Lunch Included
Excellent tour by Chen and Marco! Chen was very informative about the history of Angkor Wat, in a way that was engaging. He spoke English very well. Marco was a great driver and very friendly with a big smile. Bike ride was a great way to visit the temples and good to do in the morning time.

Private Angkor Wat Tour from Siem Reap
Our tour guide Sim was magnificent, giving us a detailed history of not only Angkor Wat and the surrounding temples but Cambodia too. It has been a dream of mine to see Angkor Wat in person but added to that our tour guides stories and anecdotes, it made it just about the most perfect day possible. Thank you. Highly recommended. Remember to go sooner rather than later before the hordes of tourists descend once more upon Angkor Wat. It is empty at the moment!

Full-Day Angkor Wat Sunrise Private Tour with Guide from Siem Reap
Can’t thank Sen enough for making the day so enjoyable. Despite the early start, the sunrise was worth it. Spectacular photo opportunities & I was fortunate enough to have Sen as a guide. He was extremely helpful, from taking photos to his knowledge of the temples, especially Angkor Wat. If you are travelling to Cambodia this tour is worth the effort, especially if you get Sen as a guide.

Sunrise Small-Group Tour of Angkor Wat from Siem Reap
Sam was our tour guide and was incredibly knowledgeable! He was able to speak on a variety of topics about the history of Angkor Wat and Cambodian culture. We also stopped at a restaurant which was quite nice so one could eat the breakfast they brought or buy something.

My husband and I, and a visitor from Holland spent an entire day with a guide (his name is Sok, not sure of spelling) to see Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm and Bayon Temples. We were the first group to get to Angkor Wat before sunrise. It was an incredible experience. Sok was knowledgeable and looked after us very well. He also gave us insight into his 6-year experience as a Buddhist monk.

Sunrise Small-Group Tour of Angkor Wat from Siem Reap
Great tour. Early start but well worth it to walk into Angkor Wat in the pre dawn light… magical and a once in a lifetime experience. Our guide Sam was brilliant and we had enough time at the 4 sites included. Our favourite was Ta Prohm or The Tomb Raider Temple… Would definitely recommend this tour to anyone.

Full-Day Angkor Wat Sunrise Private Tour with Guide from Siem Reap
Sen with Angkor Wat Tours was an excellent guide. I am not a history buff but he covered so many interesting things that a lot of it stuck and I was still able to recite facts the next day. Friendly and understanding, great experience.

Worth waking up early for
Hernan_K, Aug 2022
Sunrise Small-Group Tour of Angkor Wat from Siem Reap
Worth to wake up early for it. Too hot later in the day. And the sunrise is beautiful. Taking the tour takes the stress out of having to seek transportation from one site to another, and gets the explanations of the tour guide, which also allows you to meet and interact with local people. Our guide, Kiss, was a lovely polite and warm gentleman.

When to Get There

Peak season at Angkor Wat is between November and February, when cool, dry weather makes for a pleasant visit. Huge crowds gather in the early morning to capture photos of the sun rising over the temple and its reflection in the site’s long pools. To beat the crowds, visit other temples first and save Angkor Wat for midday or try sunset instead.

Exploring the Angkor Temples

The ancient temples of the Angkor Archaeological Park can take days to explore, but highlights include the masterpiece Angkor Wat; Ta Prohm, where banyan tree roots encroach on crumbling structures; the South Gate of Angkor Thom; the Bayon Temple, where ancient smiling stone faces sit atop high towers; and the high wall at the Terrace of the Leper King. Visitors with more time can also see further-flung sites like the pink stone temple of Banteay Srei, dating to the 10th century, or take a boat ride on Tonle Sap lake.
