Our Medway River Trips are the perfect introduction to barges and take in some of Medway’s greatest heritage sites.
The sailing barge Edith May is a beautiful ship in her own right and as soon as you step aboard you will connect with her 115 years of history.
You’ll be welcomed aboard warmly and encouraged to have a go at setting the sails and taking the helm, should you wish. Alternatively, purchase a Copper Rivet G and T from the bar, sit back and watch the world sail past.
The crew are friendly and happy to share their knowledge of the river and local area. The barge will be propelled by wind and tide alone for as long as possible - using the engine is considered cheating by the crew.
It’s the most relaxing way to spend an afternoon in the summer - as Ratty said - “There is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.“
