The Basics

One of the best ways to get an overview of the Burren is to drive along the R480 road, which links the town of Ballyvaughan in the north to Leamaneh in the south and cuts through the heart of the unusual karst landscape. Of course, to truly appreciate the Burren, and to see some of the tiny plants that sprout between the rocks, you’ll need to get out of the car and walk. Numerous signposted trails weave through the UNESCO-listed Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark.

Because of its proximity to the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren is often included as a stop-off on Cliffs of Moher day trips from Dublin and Galway, along with 16th-century Dunguaire Castle and the charming village of Doolin, a hub for traditional Irish music. Some tours also include visits to the Aillwee Cave, a series of underground caverns that features a waterfall, bear bones, and unusual rock formations.

The perfect day!
As soon as we all loaded onto the bus, I knew that this was going to be an amazing tour. John quickly made us all feel welcome, and the information he shared along the way was absolutely fantastic! There is no other way to see the west of Ireland, all while getting bits and pieces of history that you wouldn’t be able to research on your own. If you’re thinking of booking: DO IT. And if you should get John, you’re in for an added treat!

Even though it was raining and the fog prevented us from a good view, John had explained that the fog could lift at anytime. And it did! We were blessed with a great view, the rest of the trip was perfect!

From start to finish this tour was outstanding. The itinerary was awesome from Limerick to Bunratty Castle and Folk Park Castle, to the pub in Doolin, the Cliffs of Moher, The Burren and Finally the drive to Galway City along the coast. Our tour guide, Brendan, was extremely knowledgeable and lots of fun. Our drive, Jerry, was also outstanding as he negotiate the narrow roads through the countryside with ease. The Irish Rail trains were also excellent...very clean and confortable.

Cliffs of Moher, Burren and Galway Bay Rail Tour from Dublin
Cannot say enough about how well- organized and efficient this attraction is. The train has clean restrooms; the connections all went smoothly with the guides we had; our tour leader, Brandon, was well-prepared, sharing stories all along the way! Enjoyed how the day was planned, frequent stops, time for pictures; great food at O'Connors for lunch. Great memories!

Very knowledgeable tour guide. I was hoping to see the famous dolmen in the Burren National Park, which we didn't see. But an otherwise great trip.

The tour was very well organised. John was very nice and his knowledge about the region was extremely insightful. The place for lunch was very good, especially since it was completely carbon neutral, as explained by out waitress Cecile.

Cliffs of Moher and Burren Day Trip, Including Dunguaire Castle, Aillwee Cave, and Doolin from Galway
It was a wonderful day trip to the Burren, including the Cliffs of Mother, Aillwee Cave and some photo stops. Our driver and guide John was really great - he gave a lot of interesting and sometimes funny information during the bus drive, so time was passing quickly during driving. If he was not speaking (what happened rarely) we listened to traditional Irish music - it was a great day!
