Formerly known as the Cathedral of St. Mary, St. Denys, and St. George, the Manchester Cathedral has centuries of history behind it. Though the structure that stands today traces its earliest origins to the 15th century, churches have been hosted on-site for far longer: one highlight of the cathedral is the Angel Stone, which dates to the year 700. Other must-sees within the cathedral include its carved misericords and its modern stained-glass windows.
The Manchester Cathedral can be glimpsed during numerous tours of the city, including walking tours and hop-on hop-off bus itineraries. It’s also simple to plan an independent visit.
