Easy way to reach Banteay Srei & Big tour, without a hassle
, Feb 2020
Pick-up was made on time, shuttled to the HQ of the tour operator where we were assigned to specific buses for each tour. We had enough time at each of the temples. Free water was offered. Lunch was taken at a pricey restaurant, compared to prices in Siem Reap, but the food was very good. Overall, it is a good & easy way to do the Big Tour at Angkor & reach Banteay Srei for a good price, with a guide & without having to negotiate a price.
The tour provider was very organized and as described the tour was a small group of 8. Our guide Sopheap was very knowledgeable and friendly. He provided an informative tour of Banteay Srei and 5 other temples. His English was generally good but when explaining something in great detail his pronunciations were difficult to understand. Typical of many tours the lunch stop at our expense was at one of the most expensive restaurants (2-3 times the local restaurant prices). Fortunately we ate at large breakfast before the tour and ordered a small lunch. We would recommend this tour with the noted shortfalls.
After seeing the mighty Angkor Wat, take a day trip from Siem Reap to explore some of the region’s other magnificent temples. One often needs to take a break: Angkor’s immense size is mind-blowing and with a cornucopia of temples, pagodas and remnants of what once was one of the largest cities in the world (according to the records, more than one million people lived in the great Angkor Kingdom at one time), it is bound to overload you with impressions.
Our half day explorations of the famous sights form the perfect base to head out into Angkor before moving on to another highlight, surrounding Siem Reap. The Angkor Thom region is so worth it – with landmarks such as the 200-headed Bayon temple and the opulence that once adorned the Elephant Terrace fits perfectly into a morning or an afternoon trip.

End the day at Phnom Bakheng, where the hilltop lookout point makes a spectacular site from which to watch the sunset.
Costumes glistering in the spot lights: intricate finger and foot movements, depicting the finer art of its origins, and gracefully moving from one corner of the stage to the other without losing the almost Bayon-esque style smile throughout the performance.
Dinner with classical Apsara dances envelope two essential items not to be missed when in Siem Reap; culinary delights and the slow-flowing movements of an Apsara dance performance. A well-balanced act of culinary specialities with retina-pleasing performances flow through one of the leading restaurants and dance theatres in Siem Reap earmarked to complement the end of an amazing day in and around the world of Angkor.

Joined a class of 13 people. This in itself created a problem as there were 3 entrees and 4 mains with each person able to choose individually from these dishes. The lady taking the class was excellent but pushed trying to co ordinate everyone to prep and cook (with limited gas burners) different dishes. It would seem that this should have either been a hands on class with limited class numbers and dishes or a cooking demonstration.
The class lasted 3 hours with no water or drinks being offered during that time.
The big plus was that the food was wonderful and a shame that the experience was marred by poor planning

The guide Mr Nak chum was very enthusiastic and informative and friendly
Booked this trip for seven of us for the afternoon trip. The guide,Phy, was very good and looked after the group very well. We visited during dry season so the fishing village on stilts was on dry land. Still, extremely interesting. Not sure about the offered trip into the mangrove swamp with loacal lady paddling - as soon as we were in the trees we were greeted by boats of other locals trying to sell us drinks and snacks. The lake, Tonle Sap was perfect setting for the sunset followed by the mad dash of all tourist boats racing to get back to dry land. All in all, worthwhile.
Had half a day after visiting Angkor Temples. Prompt pickup at 8:30 and returned hotel around noon. The place is unique and definitiely worth a visit. The guide was quite enthusiastic and kept us engaged all through the travel.
