I must say I was a bit disappointed...

I must say I was a bit disappointed with the dinner, while I was booking the dinner I was under the impression that we are all going to sit on the floor as a traditional way of eating this Khantoke dinner. However there were limited seats on the floor, with the remaining by tables - I'd much rather prefer to sit on the the floor. I don't think this was explained clearly. Secondly when we arrived the show almost started, we were waiting for quite a time to get our food, when we finally got the sharing plate we didn't have the accompanying rice and soup so while we waited for the rest to arrive to experience it in a proper way most of our hot food got cold. It looked that other tables already were finishing so not sure why the long wait. The good thing is that you can ask for more if you wish. The dance and performance in itself was great with variety of dances performed. The acoustic of the venue did not help as it was really hard to understand the host's explanation of dances and etymology. Or perhaps it was the noise of the chatter from people. If I think about value for money, I am not sure if this is worth 40. I definitely liked the show, but the food and the service was a bit disappointing. I would be tempted to book for something similar locally and on a smaller scale the room was packed with 100 people I think. summing up, the show was good, the food was lacking, and I wish I could sit on the floor :

Fun time sitting on the floor mats...

Fun time sitting on the floor mats and trying these foods. Unfortunately, we were dropped off just before the dancing started so we didn't get to enjoy our food before the dancing started. The sound system was so poor we were not able to hear and understand the announcer who was explaining each of the dances. A printed program would have been helpful. Beautiful dancers and accomplished musicians.

Had a good experience on this tour. The dinner and show is outdoors at the Chiang Mai Cultural Centre. I think the default is to seat you on the floor with Thai-style cushions the seating areas are already laid out according to the booking sizes, but a few others who shared my pickup asked to be moved to a table and this didn't seem a problem. You get a platter with a selection of dishes, as well as some sticky rice, some boiled rice, and a thin soup. Drinks other than tea/coffee to finish are extra. I enjoyed the food. There are quite a lot of dances performed, although I will admit that I found them all quite similar. The last two dances take place outside, for reasons that are obvious once you see them don't want to spoil the surprise!. My only niggle is that the booking info tells you to pick a convenient nearby hotel from the list if yours isn't listed which I did, but they then check with the hotel to confirm you're staying there and then get confused when the hotel tells them you're not staying there!

We're sure it would've been a nice experience if we had been picked up. Since our hotel wasn't on the list, we chose one not too far as it was directed on the site. We waited at the nearby hotel at the pick up time for about an hour just to be sure, but no one came to pick us up. No one could be contacted and we weren't given an address of the destination. Of course the agency says we were a no show but who wouldn't show up when they paid for a service? Safe to say there are other Kantoke Dinner shows in Chiangmai and other agencies that provide this service.

The performance was average. We have seen a whole lot better in Thailand. The food was OK, but having to sit on the floor wd awkward and painfull. We moved to a table after a while.

For those with back problems, this type of dinner show might not be the best for you. You have to sit on cushions on a carpeted floor around the dance floor where after dinner, there are folk dances. My legs were getting numb and my back hurting so I requested the manager to seat us on a regular table which he obliged. The food was average and the show fairly long. For some, the dances may be entertaining but I noticed that the audience were slowly getting up and leaving because their interest may have been lost. I would rate this a 3.

Very rustic and basic. The food was bland and the seating on the floor was very uncomfortable. The traditional dancing was not interesting and the descriptions of the cultural significance of the dances were difficult to hear over the noise of the dinners. The pickup was very good, on time and ready to depart at the end of the dinner/show.
