This activity will end right where it started.
Your day starts with morning pickup from your centrally located hotel in Kathmandu, followed by a scenic 1-hour drive to Nagarkot.

Hike for about four hours to to Changu Narayan along an easy route that is mostly downhill. Along the way, you'll pass through small villages where you get a sense for Nepalese culture. Soak in views of Kathmandu and the Himalayas in the distance.

Your guide shares informative commentary throughout the tour, and explains the classic Nepalese architecture of Changu Narayan Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Your tour ends after about eight hours with return to your hotel in Kathmandu.

5-star option for Kathmandu Day Hike

We were picked up by Shekhar in the morning and had a lovely walk around the rim of the Kathmandu Valley, cresting several small hills in sight of the city centre. Escaping the chaos of the city, within an hour we were amidst lush greenery and the great outdoors, and had an excellent 3-4h hike from Nargakot to Changunarayan Temple. The walk is fairly gentle, an individual of average fitness would be able to manage it comfortably. Shekhar is a gentle, humble guide and we had an enjoyable afternoon, would highly recommend it!

Great Tour Guide Experience

Great experience. We did not get to do the original all day tour, due to some last minute scheduling conflicts. So, this review is not about Nagarkot. I still wanted to post a review here because of the exceptional experience we had with the tour guide, Shekhar. Due to some lat minute conflicts, I notified Shekhar that we would not be able to do the tour. This was at 6:00 am the day of the tour, very late notice and obviously too late for a refund. So, he could have just taken the money and cancelled. Instead, he asked how much time we would have and if we were interested in doing a shorter hike. Incredible. So, Shekhar found us a two hour hike in the afternoon. We went south of Kathmandu and hiked up to a Stupa that is being built. Great views of the Kathmandu valley. Shekhar also got us in to see a Buddhist Lama that was on the top of the mountain. The Lama came out and spent time with us. Super cool. Again, this is not about Nagarkot, but the tour guide was so incredibly flexible and caring, I had to post. Excellent experience.

Shekhar Bahadur Thapa is a great guide. He was very flexible with my flight delayed. He told me many interesting stories and took for a great lunch. The scenery of the mountains around Kathmandu was beautiful!

Great hike in Nepal

I went to this hike with my guide Shekhar and it was a great experience. I commented to him that it was a nice and short one so we could do another one which could be longer which we did the following day. Both of them were amazing even though we got caught in the middle of the rain. He took me through a really nice and challenging route and it was an experience I'll never forget Ir took me a while to make the review but finally did it, if you have a chance to go and hike with him you won't regret it

We were disappointed by this tour. We didn’t get pradip as a lot of these reviewers did, but the gentleman giving our tour was nice however did not talk much or tell us any facts. They communicated our hotel pickup and did a good job with that and were on time. We got to see Nagarkot on a clear day which was BEAUTIFUL. Then we started our hike, it was on a dirt road, was a little muddy but had some nice views of the locals living on the hills. If you want to take pictures of them some let you but some ask for money. This tour says it’s mostly downhill however it was a lot of uphill walking, just as much up as down. In one small area it was pretty steep. A mix of sun and shade during the hike. We were disappointed in the lack of communication, the guide talked to one other member of our party and didn’t talk to us as much, so we were left wondering what was going on. Also, we would have loved to hear about culture, or local life or agriculture, or something, but the guide stayed so quiet. Missed opportunity. They paid for our lunch and a drink at the restaurant, the momos were the best thing on the menu.

Refreshing and informative hiking tour

This tour was a hiking tour which was very interesting in several aspects. We visited temples and especially villages outside Kathmandu. It was a great experience to see the local people doing their daily things and at the same time doing a refreshing hiking with an informative conversation with the guide. I learned a lot about the Napelese culture and also practical information about the life of the normal people in Nepal.

Highly recommended! The trip started with a ride to Nagarkot with a beautiful view of the Lantang mountain range. Then it was a very nice hike to Changu Narayan Temple. Beautiful place and beautiful views on your way. Pradip - our tour guide made this hike enjoyable and relaxing.

If you are looking to experience the culture of rural Nepal while burning some calories, I highly recommend this tour. Our tour guide, Pradip, was amazing. He hiked according to our pace, and took the time to ensure we had the best possible experience. Pradip was very attentive to our interests and was able to tell how much I love animals especially goats. He went above and beyond and asked the local farmers if I could pet and hold their baby goats. It was such an awesome experience. He let us swing on a handmade swing made out of bamboo. That was a lot of fun. Pradip was more than willing to take pictures of us and even knew how to use a higher quality camera, Canon EOS Digital DSLR. He was such an awesome guide and I would definitely booking this tour.

This was by far the BEST I've ever had. Kalpana is an excellent guide with very extensive knowledge about local culture and she will be more than happy to anwser any of your questions. After the tour I felt I learned more in the span of 4 hours than during my entire stay in Nepal. HIGHLY recommended if you want to see all the best places in Kathmandu!

The trip was expensive by Nepalese standards but overall very good and I would do it again without hesitation. The guide was well informed and spoke fluent English. We saw rural farming villages during a long downhill hike. It is unlikely a tourist would get this view of Nepal on his own. Lunch was included but do not do the trip for the food. Dealing with the tour company was easy.

We were picked up from our hotel on time in a clean, large SUV. Our driver and guide were very friendly and our guide told us all about the city. The drive up to Nagarkot is quite bumpy, but the view of the Himalayas at the top is breathtaking. The hike down is amazing as well! Would recommend!

A very humbling experience. One year after the devastating earthquake that hit the Kathmandu village it was good to see that the people have moved on with their lives. Walking through the many small villages on this hike allowed me to get close to the people closer than I ever imagined.
