100 house points to our tour guide Peter, for going above and beyond to make it an unforgettable experience
, Sep 2021
The in depth knowledge that our guide, Peter, had of the Harry Potter story, its author and Oxford city made it very enjoyable. Our guide quizzed us along the way, making it fun for all in the group, stopping to point things out, tell funny stories and show us photos relevant to the tour
Easy day out

It was great walking round with Alasdair, he is incredibly knowledgeable in all things Oxford. It was pretty fun joking around and hearing all the great facts and stories. The Harry Potter references were an additional bonus. Would recommend!

Hi Sazia, Thanks for recommending your tour with me here and hopefully see you again next time you have visitors.
Not just for Harry Potter fans.

We attended the Harry Potter tour at the weekend and my daughter loved it. Peter was extremely knowledgeable and ensured it remained fun for all. Including myself who knows nothing about Harry Potter! Would recommend to all, regardless of your potter knowledge.
Must Do Tour
, Sep 2021
I highly recommend this tour. I’m not the biggest Harry Potter fan but it was really interesting and had a great mix of fun facts on all literary luminaries at Oxford. Peter was one of my favorite tour guides of all time. His knowledge and rapport were really impressive.
Fantastic tour

A fantastic tour, Peter was amazingly knowledgeable and very funny. Children and adults held enthralled. He went over and beyond to make sure everyone was happy and his enthusiasm for Oxford and HP shone through. If we ever come back to Oxford we will definitely be booking in to hi pub crawl tour!

Hi Katrina, Thanks for the super recommendation. We hope to see you again, as you suggested, for a pub tour or cycle tour etc. Sincerely, Alasdair
Interesting, entertaining and varied tour
, Aug 2021
We were fortunate to receive a recommendation from a past customer, and booked onto the Harry Potter walking tour last week (26th August). We were so pleased we did! Prior to the tour, the communication from the company was exemplary - clear and helpful information confirming the booking, and advising on allowing time to navigate the public transport system. Our tour guide, Peter, was fantastic. He was obviously so passionate and enthusiastic about Oxford, Harry Potter and the English language. He talked about JK Rowing, JRR Tolkien, CS Lewis, Shakespeare and more. He easily held the attention of our two children (13 and 10) as well as us adults! He went to great lengths to involve everyone on the tour, asking questions and encouraging participation. He even thought to feed the children part-way round, which was a lovely touch. Peter was considerate and hugely knowledgeable. He easily answered any ad hoc questions about Oxford and the university. He also gave recommendations of what to do and where to go once the tour had finished. Despite my wife growing up in the area (and attending secondary school in Oxford) we all learned a lot and all visited sights we’d not been to before. Upon returning to the in-laws that evening, we were able to tell them a fair few things they didn’t know either! This tour - and this company - is highly recommended. We hope we will be able to book again for a similar tour in the future.
Best tour in Oxford

We had a fantastic tour yesterday with Peter! He was very knowledgeable and passionate about both Harry Potter and Oxford. We learnt a lot (despite thinking we were already massive Harry Potter fans!) Thank you for the many jokes and the delicious cake 🧁 We will definitely be returning to Oxford and look forward to another one of your delightful tours! Thank you so much, Dan and Jade

Don’t miss this tour!
, Aug 2021
This tour is a must do!!! Peter is an exceptional guide, incredible knowledge, engaged with and involved everyone in the group and the effort he went to with costumes, cakes and welfare of the group is something he should be proud of. Be back soon with extended family!

Disappointing overall
, Aug 2021
Very little relating to Harry Potter other than quiz questions and some background on JK Rowling. Visited one filing location and the guide didn’t tell us that it was a Harry Potter location until after we had exited! Peter was a nice guy but talked incessantly, to the point that a 90 minute tour ended up lasting three hours, causing us to miss our next planned activity that afternoon.

Hi. Firstly, thanks for taking the time to leave critical feedback and of course for choosing our tour. I have now spoken with your guide Peter about your feedback and while we can't tell for sure from your username, which client you are, we believe you are the same customer who mentioned taking a river cruise after our tour which was set to leave at 3.15? My colleague Peter mentions that if that's the case, you had mentioned this fact and that you were under the impression that the river trip departure point is only 5 minutes walk away. Peter mentions that he corrected this statement by explaining that that is more like 20 minutes walk away. I understand that you may have other plans scheduled after any tour which you book with us and thus we should indeed ensure that tours duration is mentioned. I had thought that I had listed the tour as lasting from 90-120 minutes but I will double check the description now. Our tour currently always ends with entry to the Divinity school film site and I book entry tickets there in advance to enter at 2pm. Where and when 2pm entry tickets are sold out, then I purchase them for 2.15pm entry. The Divinity school currently limits entry time to visit the Divinity school to 15 minutes inside. Thus, this tour always should up to 2 hours ending by 14.30. I know that that Peter likes to go the extra mile and he often invites his customers at the end of the tour to use his Blackwells books shop members card to give you his card discount to let you save money if you wish to shop for books at Blackwells. This is not something which the rest of us guides do and Peter does not earn any credit on this, nor do I. He offers this as he just wants to be helpful and to encourage children to develop their literary interests. If Peter does offer to spend extra time with you in this way, after you have exited the Divinity school film site, then you can of course anyway just say goodbye at that point. We do introduce before you enter the Divinity school that the tour ends at this point as we currently are not allowed to guide inside the Divinity school due to covid rules. Peter has confirmed to me that he always explains what you will see inside the Divinity school before you enter and indeed that's why we carry around A4 laminated images to show you, before we enter. Peter also often shows short video of film excerpts filmed there too. I was not on your tour so I cannot confirm what was said but perhaps you were distracted, when he informed everyone of what was coming up next. You also mentioned that you were disappointed that the tour only visits inside the one film site called the Divinity school. However, our advertising makes it very clear that - since March 2020 covid relates venue closure of New college- the Divinity school is the only venue which the tour includes entry to. For anyone else reading this, there is one other film site open called Christ church but it costs £16 per person and we receive £17.50 per adult ticket from your £25 entry ticket sold here on viator. Plus we cannot guide inside Christ church during covid rules era and Christ church entry tickets tend to sell out days in advance before many clients have even booked our main Harry Potter tour. On this basis, I appreciate your feedback and if you have made any appropriate and correct comments, I have asked Peter to make sure he plans his time and he communicates what you will see inside Divinity school. However, I also think you should read the tour description more carefully as it has been reviewed very carefully to make sure it's clear what is and what is not included in our competitively priced and very popular Harry Potter Insights tour. PS for anyone else reading this tour review and comment, please note that we do offer a more expensively priced tour option apart from this tour which does also include currently only self guided entry to Divinity school in addition to the default tour to the Divinity school. Thanks for choosing our tour. Sincerely, Alasdair
