A day well spent
, Jun 2019
We undertook this tour on our first day in Cambodia and we lived it. The guide Dara and the driver were great company, efficient and reliable. Dara planned the tour so that we were visiting the 2 temples at times when they were very quiet. This enabled us to take our time and begin to get a better understanding of the carvings and structure.the carvings at Banteay Srei were as delicate as filigree and Banteay Samre was much more robust. The walk to the waterfall Kbal Spean was not as far as we had expected but in some parts climbing over the rocks made it hard work; it was also a very hot and humid day although we were shaded by the trees The waterfall is not spectacular in itself but the carvings are fascinating. At the base of the waterfall there is a small area that can be best described as a fairy grotto straight out of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. When we were there, there were hundreds of different species of butterflies. The tour included lunch at a local restaurant by the royal lake (swimming pool). This was the most disappointing part of the day. The food was not good and we had hoped that we might have been given some information about the dishes but that did not happen. I would recommend this tour but be prepared to walk!
