Why Travelers Choose This Tour

This Lake Ashi and Mt. Fuji trip stands out thanks to included rides to and from Tokyo aboard the bullet train.
Your day starts early with pickup by deluxe coach at select hotels and locations in Tokyo. Take in the scenery as you depart Tokyo for a 2.5-hour drive to Mt Fuji, Japan’s highest mountain.

Proceed by coach to Mt Fuji’s 5th Station that is located at 7,545 feet (2,300m) about halfway up the mountain and offers another vantage point for Mt Fuji and the surrounding lakes (subject to weather conditions). The 5th Station also features shrines, torii gates, souvenir shops, and perhaps a few climbers completing their preparations for their ascent.

Then have time to enjoy Japanese-style lunch (if you select the "+ Lunch" option at checkout). Otherwise, you have the option to buy your own meal. Then drive to Lake Ashi, located nearby in Hakone National Park. Admire the pretty scenery as you take a short cruise across the lake, which is surrounded by mountains including Mt Fuji and Mt Komagatake.

Then journey to the top of Mt Komagatake on the Mt Komagatake Ropeway, an aerial tram that lifts off from the shores of the lake and takes you up Mt Komagatake in an enclosed cabin with 360-degree views. When you reach the summit, enjoy time to take in views over Lake Ashi and Mt Fuji. You can also take a short stroll along one of the walking trails at the mountain top.

After visiting Mt Komagatake, transfer by coach to the evening bullet train (Shinkansen) for your return to Tokyo Station.

Superb day out!

I booked this day trip out based on reviews on Trip Advisor and it did not disappoint. Firstly - the weather was gorgeous, which made it really special as I had full views of Mount Fuji within 10 mins of leaving the hotel on the coach. There were around 30 people in my group which was a good size, and everyone was back at the coach on time. Highlight of the day was the first stop (at a lake for coffee break) and to take pictures of Mount Fuji as it sat across the lake - this was the BEST view point of the day. We did go later much closer to the mountain (we could only get to 1st station due to snow - highest you can go by coach is 5th station) - however, even at 1st station as you are actually on Mount Fuji you can't get a great picture as you are so close to it. Best pics are from the first stop at the lake, and last stop on the cable car. All in all a fantastic day out. Lunch was buffet style and excellent too. Our guide - KANAE was very good - spoke in perfect English and was very knowledgable. Can highly recommend this trip. Also suggest to take the bullet train back to Tokyo at the end of the trip (back in Tokyo in 30-40 mins) as opposed to returning by coach which takes around 2 hours.

Too many changes

I think it's better if JTB can specifically say about changes to the tour and schedule upfront instead of tour guide announcing it and causing disappointments. E.g. what Mt Fuji station can be reached; can the cruise go ahead, and what would be alternate arrangement in case each of this is not available.

Wonderful Experience

Definitely a major highlight of my trip to Japan. All aspects of the process and directions were easy and simple. It was easy to find my meeting place, The Marriot and staff at the Marriot was helpful in directing us. Our Tour Guide, Keito, was fun, lively, knowledgeable, caring and provided interesting facts about our sites. She was carefully attending to us to make sure we enjoyed the trip, giving clear directions which she repeated so we knew exactly was expected of us. I will definitely use Viator for trips again.

Yabe-san was our tour guide. Great fellow, wonderful guide. We missed the cablecar ride (cancelled cos of strong winds) but gave us a tour of hakone instead. Lunch was good & hearty. It was a sunny day and we saw Mt Fuji on a cloudless day, the snow glistening in the sun. Tour was well worth it. Highly recommended.

Great day out

We were blessed to have a fine day & great viewing of Mt Fuji . Our guide Joe was just brilliant/ very friendly , personable, professional & helpful. The lunch was ordinary & we would prefer to have bought our own in hindsight. Joe gave a great talk about all the various parts of the set meal - which is great for those who haven’t been to Japan before . Joe stayed with the group taking the Shinkansen back to Tokyo & gave everyone very individual service as to how exactly to get themselves back to their hotels . I loved the mountainous areas we passed on our return to Odewara ( where we caught the Shinkansen) with all the Shinto shrines , temples and red Toru gates . A great day out !

Great trip, but timing needs work

The experiences included in this trip were great. We made it up to the 4th station and the weather was perfectly sunny. My only problem was with the timing. We had a small group and were always back on time or even early. We ended up missing the boat by a few minutes and waited around 40 minutes for the next one (we could have easily cut lunch 10-15 minutes short...we took an hour but the itinerary said 45 mins). Then we were all back to the bus early after the ropeway. The tour guide was shopping or something instead of checking on us, we missed the bullet train back by 5 mins and had to wait 30 mins for another one. Tour guides should know about the boat and train times and do their best to plan properly around them. It was very frustrating wasting 90 minutes of my day waiting around. Tour guide Harry was very nice but just needs to pay more attention to those things and this would’ve been a 5 star trip.
